EDTA (commonly seen as disodium EDTA or tetrasodium EDTA) "holds" metal ions, which is great when preserving health and beauty products but not so great in the environment. It means that, in the environment, EDTA can reduce the availability of key nutrients or increase the availability of toxic heavy metals. Scientists have been raising concerns about the environmental impact of EDTA for at least 15 years, but it is still widely used. #beauty #beautyproducts #cosmetics #bblogger #greenbeauty #ecobeauty #cleanbeauty #chemicals #chemistry #ecochemistry #science #EDTA #preservatives #environment #sustainable #sustainability #nature #ecofriendly #lowimpactliving
We've heard how an increase in demand for palm oil has resulted in deforestation and the loss of habitat - but palm oil requires much less land for production than other vegetable oils, meaning it's a sustainable choice when produced responsibly. Groups like the IUCN have warned that boycotting palm oil and increasing demand for other vegetable oils could lead to further habitat loss, because the alternatives require even more land for production. #fridayfact #palmoil #sunfloweroil #coconutoil #palmoilfree #nopalmoil #iucn #rspo #deforestation #habitat #sustainable #environment #eco #ecofriendly #ecobeauty #greenbeauty #cleanbeauty #beauty #infographic
This tarte cosmetics concealer contains seven different silicones. These two - cyclopentasiloxane and cyclohexasiloxane - are of environmental concern because they can persist in the environment and have been found to bioaccumulate. In the European Union, these chemicals have been identified as substances of very high concern. We give this product an avoid rating - see the full review on our blog. #beauty #bbloger #cosmetics #makeup #concealer #tarte #tartecosmetics #tarteshapetape #shapetape #shapetapeconcealer #ecobeauty #cleanbeauty #greenbeauty #review #eco #ecofriendly #environment #sustainable #zerowaste #lowimpactliving #chemistry #silicones #bioaccumulation

Actions to reduce the environmental impact of your beauty product choices can be as simple as buying the bigger version. #infographic #beauty #beautyproducts #cosmetics #bblogger #greenbeauty #ecobeauty #cleanbeauty #larocheposay #skincare #moisturiser #moisturizer #zerowaste #recycle #beautymiles #packaging #plastic #environment #sustainable #sustainability #nature #ecofriendly #lowimpactliving
Our eco-review of @tartecosmetics Shape Tape concealer is up on the blog today. One of the reasons why it gets an avoid rating is that you can't easily recycle the tube lid and applicator wand. TerraCycle is the only organisation that we're aware of that will accept this type of packaging for recycling. #beauty #bbloger #cosmetics #makeup #concealer #tarte #tartecosmetics #tarteshapetape #shapetape #shapetapeconcealer #ecobeauty #cleanbeauty #greenbeauty #review #eco #ecofriendly #environment #sustainable #recycle #zerowaste #lowimpactliving
